A family run farm at the heart of the Mendip Hills, Townsend Farm offers an alternative livery system based on allowing horses choice.

The livery is run by Jo Simmons who has many years of experience and has owned horses since she was a small child. After rehabbing several laminitics  Jo grew a passion for keeping horses in a system that she believes has huge health and welfare benefits for them.

Deep bedded, loose sheds are available for shelter as an alternative to stabling and horses have 24hr access to outdoor areas including our track system, yards and paddock.

Horses are kept in a herd so they have constant stimulation, movement and company. Ad-lib mixed species meadow hay is supplied to ensure a low sugar diet.

This more natural way of livery is ideal for all types of horses including laminitics, retired, arthritic, rehab, performance horses and those with stable vices.

Our retirement packages allow for grazing and ad lib hay as well as all year round shelter and barns depending on the seasonal needs of your horse.

Whilst we only accept barefoot horses we are experienced and knowledgeable in the transition of shod horses to barefoot and very happy to advise/assist in this journey.
